how to get rid of bed bugs

Bed bugs are among the oldest human parasites. They are found all over the world, in all living areas and in all climates. In recent years, infestations in homes and hotels have been on the rise. International travel and the emergence of resistance to insecticides probably contribute to the spread of infestations that raise questions from individuals and communities.

If the dermatological manifestations linked to bites can be a real nuisance, it appears, according to the current state of knowledge, that bedbug bites do not present a risk of vector transmission of infectious agents.

Recognizing the presence of bed bugs:

Bites are the first indication that bedbugs are present. Usually located on the exposed parts of the body (hand, arms, face, legs, etc.), they resemble mosquito bites, sometimes appearing in a line of 4 to 5 quite characteristic bites. The itching caused by these bites can be severe.

When a dwelling is heavily infested with bed bugs, several lesions may appear in several places on the skin exposed during sleep.

Protecting your environment from bed bugs:

To protect your environment from bed bugs, it is advisable to:

Keep your home clean and free of clutter;
Vacuum regularly;
Avoid buying second-hand clothing, upholstered furniture or mattresses as they may be infested with bed bugs;
Watch for any suspicious bites.

If suspected :

Bed bugs do not transmit disease to humans but are a nuisance. They can cause sleep disorders, anxiety, social isolation, etc. Bed bugs affect all categories of accommodation. The cleanliness of a place alone does not guarantee protection against colonization.

Therefore, in case of infestation of a dwelling by bed bugs, it is necessary to take strict measures to limit their proliferation until elimination.

We tested everything to finally find you the solution to eradicate bed bugs, and it is by using our Diatomaceous Earth Spray of the brand BIO'CINOV which is a 100% vegetable product and very effective to fight against parasites and crawling insects. Other more chemical and expensive solutions are also available such as calling a professional.

Advice for use:

  • Due to loss of effectiveness and health risk, overdosing diatomaceous earth on a localized area (or putting it everywhere) is not recommended. Instead, we recommend making treated strips a few centimeters wide (7-8 cm maximum). The goal is to have the thinnest possible film of diatomaceous earth.
  • Depending on the time the insect is exposed to the diatomaceous earth and the doses received, you should wait between five and fifteen days for the bed bugs to be killed. Dust reduces the effectiveness of diatomaceous earth. It is therefore recommended to renew the application of diatomaceous earth regularly depending on its accumulation in the room, generally every week.
  • Avoid contact of diatomaceous earth with the skin. It is therefore not recommended for use on clothing. On the floor, the size of the treated areas must be reduced to a minimum, in order to prevent the diatomaceous earth from volatilizing into the ambient air. This includes bedding and mattresses. Amorphous diatomaceous earth still has a high toxicity to the lungs, and requires proper use and protective equipment. It should therefore be avoided as much as possible to apply it where it can easily circulate in a dwelling. Therefore, we advise you to use a mask, protective gloves and goggles.
